Benoît Van Innis is sympathetic to minimalism, but at the same time approaches it with the necessary humor. The Netman Museum can be read as an ode to the history of abstract art, but also as a persiflage of it. Although his lines here are already loose and on the lyrical side, for the drawing on the floor of his museum Van Innis still adheres somewhat to 'the grid' as prescribed by the artists of De Stijl. The artist more or less abandons this dogmatic approach to abstraction with a suggestion of three-dimensionality on the back wall of his museum that could be vaguely reminiscent of Sol Lewitt. On the side walls, the “nets” run crosswise and the abstract patterns tend toward the decorative. Van Innis' museum room thus takes on the allure of a humorous history of abstract art from the past century.
