Nightmare at the museum (2012)
5 OIL PAINTINGS ON CANVAS
42 years after his coup, Libyan leader Moammar al-Qadhafi fell to rebels on Oct. 20, 2011, and was put to death. Robert Devriendt portrays the vain colonel in life against a purple background. His effigy is central to Devriendt's Nightmare at the museum, an uncanny series of miniature images that evoke associations with violence, luxury, murder and decadence. Although each exudes a well-nigh classical beauty, they clench as a series. The temple of beauty - the museum - subtly but surely turns into an associative nightmare.
