Since 2009, Peter Buggenhout has been working on a series of works under the title The Blind Leading the Blind. In 2010-2011, he also already installed a work with this title at the Museum of Old and New Art in Tasmania (Australia). Like Pieter Bruegel the Elder in The Parable of the Blind (1568), Peter Buggenhout holds up a mirror to his spectators. Unlike Bruegel's sixteenth-century masterpiece, there is no trace of the blind in Buggenhout's museum room. The artist depicts a world turned inside out, a waste that, despite everything, bears witness to an unruly, contrary beauty.
