WALL PAINTING
Another highlight of Luc Tuymans' international rise was his 2008 exhibition at the Haus der Kunst in Munich. Tuymans provided the title of his exhibition - Wenn der Frühling kommt - with the same interwar font that also adorns the facade of this German art temple from the Nazi period. With such minimal interventions or references, Tuymans not only exposed the uncanny tension between past and present, but also sneered at the excesses of postwar and contemporary society. In Munich, for example, he showed the large mural Wonderland, of which he made a scale model for his mini-museum five years later. In this mural, he depicts the Western consumer and entertainment industry in such a way that it becomes a paragon of the hopeless disintegration of utopia.
