6 PAINTINGS AND A CRATE
In his museum space for Museum to Scale 1/7, the then ninety-one-year-old Bogart seems to be questioning the process of canonization. The selected works show that his monochromatic matière art has prevailed over the lyricism of early informal work. It is further striking that only half of the works are still attached to the walls, a lasting memento of the fact that the museum room turned out to be his last work. Three works (making up the Belgian tricolor) have not yet been hung. Should we include this Dutch artist, naturalized to Belgian, in a Belgian or Dutch canon? Or in both?
