MUSEUM TO SCALE 1/7

Afbeelding van het kunstwerk

Peter De Meyer

(Antwerp, 1981 )

Time 1/7 (1981)

CLOCK, BENCH

Peter De Meyer's museum space is empty. At the center of the white space is a neutral bench with an equally generic wall clock above it. However, the hand of this clock moves around remarkably fast. In this work, De Meyer translates a museum to scale into a time to scale. And so, in this small space, the hand of the clock rotates seven times faster than “normal. In this way, the artist forces the visitor to dwell on the concept of scaling. As a bonus, the lights go out - as in a real museum - after the usual opening hours.
