Untitled (2012)
CHIPBOARD, MELAMINE, PAINT
The underlying idea behind Museum to Scale blends well with De Cock’s oeuvre. Within the enclosed white space of his museum room, the artist creates a sculptural installation of chipboard, melamine and paint. Untitled was conceived as a non-functional architecture. The artist has nailed or blocked both doors. The organic proliferation of abstract forms references 1920s and 1930s Modernism and Constructivism. The association with the iconic Merzbau by Kurt Schwitters (1923-1937) is particularly apparent
