Lash Lace Fucked-Up (2011)

5 LIGHT SCULPTURES AND 2 TEXT SCULPTURES IN PLEXI

In Lash Lace Fucked-Up, Liliane Vertessen poses as a fille de joie in a multimedia installation consisting of five neon sculptures and two text sculptures in plexiglass. The lace and whip make clear the clientele’s fantasies, while the ‘fucked-up’ in the title could refer either to those morbid desires or to the girl’s mental health. By adding the words ‘Lust’ and ‘Live’ – as kind of pillars for the room – Vertessen seems to suggest simultaneously that lust is an essential aspect of life and that she therefore refuses to judge.
