Andy Wauman
(Wilrijk,
1975 )
A deliberate and economical use of words plays a central role in Andy Wauman's oeuvre. Wandering through the associative labyrinth of language, Wauman opts for a minimal use of the medium, but without falling into minimalism. For the latter, he is too much of a romantic and poetic anarchist. The artist is an explorer at a time when there is little to discover. In black-and-white contrasts, Wauman explores the rough and dark edges of a sometimes deplorable society and reflects on themes of decay and loss. In doing so, he deliberately eschews any form of cynicism.
