With photographs, drawings, video and music, Elke Andreas Boon builds multidimensional installations. In them, she thematizes the fragile beauty of human existence and the willpower required to break free from social structures, expectations and conventions. Boon departs from personal experiences and observations of everyday life. She became known for her sensitive portraits of children and young adults, often nudes, which radiate vulnerability in an almost brutal way. Also in her other work a poetic sensitivity always prevails. It guides her way of looking at life and her attempt to understand the world, deconstruct identity and question social expectations. Against the uncertainties, imperfections and despair that Boon exposes, the awareness of implicit beauty and the creative desire to liberate it stand in constant tension.
