Michel Mouffe made his debut during the heyday of conceptual art. Although painting is said to be dead in the 1980s, Mouffe continues to believe in the medium and consistently explores its specific individuality in his oeuvre. He reflects on the fundamentals of painting by exploring the limits of the medium. For example, the stretcher - the hidden side of the painting - is an essential part of his work. Along the back, Mouffe puts tension on the flat canvas. In this way, he adds a spatial dimension to his carefully constructed paintings with thin layers of paint and varnish.
