MUSEUM TO SCALE 1/7

Already while studying mining engineering in Leuven, Léonard Misonne developed a lively interest in music, painting and photography. From 1896, he devoted himself entirely to photography. His search for beauty made him cross Belgium by bicycle. Misonne's oeuvre is known as that of a master Pictorialist who gained fame with atmospheric landscapes and street scenes. In particular, his experimental printing techniques and his fascination with the depth of light brought appreciation far beyond the country's borders. For example, works by Misonne can be found in the collection of the Rijksmuseum, among others, as well as in the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
