In prints, drawings, models and sculptures, Wesley Meuris simulates architectural environments that appear simultaneously recognizable and alienating. In this way, the artist investigates the interaction between architecture and conditioned behavior. He probes the conventions by which we deal with specific architectural spaces and questions the basic rules about dimensions, use of materials, proportions and distribution of our living environment. His architectural models question the human factors (such as hygiene, privacy or shame) that underlie diverse architectural conventions. In 2012, for the central cemetery of Borgloon, Meuris designed Memento, a monumental sculpture that serves as a pavilion that invites meditation.
