The intimacy exuded by Gideon Kiefer's works is mostly deceptive. For behind the familiar feeling evoked by everyday reality lies the artist's fascination with a hidden truth. In his work, Kiefer relativizes the power of persons with a certain authority and exposes their powerless vulnerability. In particular, Kiefer portrays doctors, scientists and businessmen in a web of lines. On the one hand, that tangle is reminiscent of the structure and order of a perspective drawing, but on the other hand, it can evoke the association with a trap, a spider's web into which power gets trapped.
