In his images, Ruben Bellinkx thematizes the relationship between the wild unpredictability of nature and the deceptive gravity and instability of our civilized existence. In more recent work, he also questions the physicality and relationships that help define a subject's entity, blurring the boundary between subject and object. Bellinkx's detailed drawings claim autonomy, but also serve as preliminary studies for films and installations. The artist finds inspiration in utensils, furniture and the architecture of his immediate environment, which he charges with new substantive perspectives through subtle manipulations and bizarre combinations. He often establishes a relationship with human figures or animals. In Bellinkx's alienating staging, recognizable objects are disconnected from their logical function and living beings seem to transform into objects, resulting in alienation and sometimes even oppression.
