Cel Crabeels
(Brecht,
1958 )
In videos, installations, photographs and performances, Cel Crabeels seeks to evoke an emptiness, a “void” as he himself describes it. In this way, he creates a potential, unfilled space of meaning. Beyond this physical experience of the environment, Crabeels' oeuvre testifies to a fascination with the impact of peripheral events on the spectator's perception and interpretation. The artist confronts his audience with an essence that can never be unequivocally interpreted, but functions as a frame of reference to which personal interpretations can be given.
