Fred Eerdekens' consistent oeuvre sits on the dividing line between installation art, sculpture and word art. Using a light source and curled copper wire or iron, Eerdekens sculpts equally ornate words or slogans on the wall with the shadow of his ornate ribbons. The written word emerges only when the sculpted object is illuminated. By working and deforming his material in this way, the sculptor Eerdekens ultimately places his spectators, above all, in a semantic field that reflects the richness of language and invites them to give meaning to it.
