Ronny Delrue

(Heestert, 1957 )

The oeuvre of Ronny Delrue has been moving away from the sphere of influence of expressionism in recent decades. In his mostly small canvases, the grand gesture or expressionist gesture is systematically suppressed. Central to Delrue's artistic practice is the idea of painting away. By deliberately making details disappear under several layers of paint, the artist forces his viewers to reflect on contradictions such as abstraction and figuration, beautiful and ugly, knowing and forgetting. Often Delrue's diary notes form the breeding ground for his painting.
